New Ionising Radiation Regulations expected January 2018
Revised Regulations are due to be published in January 2018, with new exposure limits. This is particularly significant for Radon, where the limit will be reduced from 400 Bq/m3 to 300Bq/m3.
As is it already a legal requirement for employers in premises within Radon Affected Areas to carry out a Radon Risk Assessment, it will be necessary to review the assessment to ensure that the limit is met. For more information on the Radon Assessment see http://www.hse.gov.uk/radiation/ionising/radon.htm#legalrequirements
For anyone unsure whether their premises lie within such an area, maps indicating the levels of radon exposure can be found at www.ukradon.org
Exposure to Radon is the second biggest cause of lung cancer in the UK after smoking.
